20 Years A Master (Vatican)

It is now 20 years today since the late Pope appointed then Monsignor, now Archbishop Piero Marini as the Master of Papal Litugical Celebrations.

Down through the years he would have been seen literally and otherwise as the papal left hand man as he ensured that ceremonies proceeded ast they should and preparing for every possible outcome.
This would have been more obvious and evident in the final years of the pontificate of the late John Paul II and no doubt his passing was somewhat more personal to Marini.

He was key during the election of Benedict XVI by whose side he is often also seen, but his presence is to become less now with a new man being prepared as Marini is now on the road to retirement.

Notable of his tenure has been the mediabilé of papal ceremonies all so well stage managed and indeed he is credited with having put together Ordo Rituum pro Ministerii Petrini Initio Romae Episcopi [Order of Rites for the Beginning of the Petrine Ministry of the Bishop of Rome] which was years in the making by all accounts.

Sotto Voce extends heartiest well wishes to the Maestro!!
