Anglican Church Suspends Episcopalians From Ecumenical Bodies Over Appointment of Lesbian Bishop

Adding to the deepening divisions between the Episcopal Branch of the Anglican Church and the main branch, it was announced Monday that it is planning on cutting Episcopalians from a variety of ecumenical bodies in response to a recent decision by the Episcopal Church to appoint an open lesbian to the position of Bishop.

This decision violates the moratorium imposed by the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams on the appointment of LGBT individuals to leadership positions.

Archbishop Williams let the Episcopal Church leaders know Monday about the suspension.

The Anglican Church has been caught in the same web of problems that the Catholic Church has regarding homosexuality.

They have been hampered from acknowledging the progress of many Western First World nations such as in Europe and North America with regards to lesbians, gays and transpeople due to the Victorian era morality that remains in much of South America and Africa.

This has lead to a further drift from organized religion in the Western nations.

Many disaffected Anglicans are choosing to join the Catholic Church while many disaffected Catholics are joining the Anglican Church when it comes to the issue of homosexuality.

Anglicans are far more progressive on this issue, though not as progressive as other Christian denominations.

The Vatican, seat of the Catholic Church, maintain that homosexuality is an absolute sin and should not be accommodated in any manner.
