Church booklet ends speculation over Pope visit to Coventry

AN official booklet explaining the purpose of the Pope’s upcoming visit to the UK has been published, naming Coventry as the location of the final ceremony.

Following a week of speculation, Catholic newspaper The Tablet suggested Pope Benedict XVI would end September’s state visit with a trip to an unused part of Birmingham’s Longbridge motor plant – instead of Coventry Airport.

And earlier this week a senior church spokesman told the Telegraph that the plan to visit Coventry was “aspirational”.

But the publication of the booklet, dubbed The Pope in the UK, could go some way to ending those rumours.

The preface of the booklet states: “Today there are many gaps in public knowledge in these matters.

“This booklet seeks to address those gaps, not in a profound or systematic manner but just by way of some clear facts and indications.

"They will be helpful in preparation for this Papal visit.
