Priest Accused of Embezzling $1 Million

The Catholic Church has been hit with another scandal, this time involving a Connecticut priest accused of embezzling $1 million from his diocese.

According to ABC News, the Rev. Kevin Gray, a 26-year veteran of the Hartford, Connecticut Catholic Diocese is being investigated for allegedly pocketing money over a seven-year period from a savings fund established for the Sacred Heart parish that was to be used for building renovations and church debt.

The archdiocese became suspicious when they asked Gray to submit several years worth of annual financial reviews from his parish and he allegedly said he couldn’t complete the reports due to a serious terminal illness.

While giving him more time, the archdiocese began its own investigation, which turned up troubling evidence and now parishioners are more heartbroken because they believe Gray concocted the illness tale to give himself more time to come up with a story to cover up for the lost funds.
