Consistory to be preceeded by day on new evangelisation

The “Extraordinary Concistory” called by Benedict XVI will be dedicated to the theme of the new Evangelisation.

It will take place before the Concistory for the creation of new cardinals.

The Holy See’s Press Office has announced that “The Holy Father has convened members of the College of Cardinals and newly elected cardinals for a Day of reflection and prayer which will take place on 17 February in the Synod’s New Hall.

It will begin at 10 in the morning with the recitation of the Daytime Prayer and in the afternoon at 17 o’clock, with the recitation of the Vespers.”

“The main topic of the Day will be “The announcement of the Gospel today, between “missio ad gentes” and “new evangelisation””
and it will be introduced by the appointed Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York.

There will also be a Communication on the Year of the Faith, presented by Mgr. Salvatore Fisichella, President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelisation.”

The Holy See Press Office also informed that the appointed Cardinal, Fr. Karl Josef Becker, a Jesuit, will not be made cardinal during the public ceremony on 18 February due to health reasons, but privately on another occasion.
