Pope to meet world’s police forces

Next 9 November, the Vatican will welcome a group of policemen from across the world.

Pope Benedict XVI will receive 800 delegates from Interpol, the international criminal police organisation.

They will be accompanied by some interior and justice ministers from the various countries represented.

After Vietnam in 2011 and before Colombia in 2013, this year Italy will host the 81st Interpol General Assembly, from 5 to 8 November.

The international meeting will be held at the Hilton Hotel and will be inaugurated with a ministerial conference that will be attended by over a hundred interior ministers from Interpol’s 190 member countries.

The core discussion topic will be the challenges faced by the police in tackling criminal violence in today’s world.

The Vatican City State became Interpol’s 187th member in October 2008 at the Interpol General Assembly in St. Petersburg.

The Vatican Gendarmerie has the task of coordinating the international organisation and the papal state.
