Diocese sets up website to fight school funding cuts

“At a time when there is general agreement that we need to invest more into the education of our young people, it is mind-boggling that the NSW Government plans to reduce funding to all schools by three per cent,” he said.

“There is no more important investment in society than the one in education.”

Mr Whitby said all schools require the ongoing support of state and federal government
“through fair and equitable funding”.

He urged schools and parishes to get behind the campaign and to visit www.parra.catholic.edu.au/schoolfunding

The website offers sample letters to MPs, slogans for school signs and newsletter items to raise awareness of this issue, as well as an online petition lobbying the NSW Government to overturn its decision.

Catholic school principals have met state and federal MPs since the budget cuts, including a cap on funding for non-government schools, were announced.
