The Diocesan Administrator, Mgr John Wilson, said in a statement that a consultation process was starting "regarding the sustainability of employment roles connected with central diocesan administration."
Mgr Wilson explained that the diocese was facing "significant financial challenges" and that "our expenditure is far greater than the income we receive to support these [central diocesan services]." He added: "Regrettably, we have to make some changes. We cannot go on as we are. We can no longer spend more than we have."
A spokesman for the diocese said the plan was to make six jobs redundant across various departments.
According to the most recent set of accounts for the diocese the expenditure of the curia was £4.7 million and income almost £4 million.
