Chicago archdiocese settles with another McCormack victim for $3.2M

With the assistance of a mediator, the Archdiocese of Chicago has reached a $3.2-million settlement with another man who alleged abuse by ex-priest Daniel McCormack.

The archdiocese has already settled suits brought by some of the other young men who report that McCormack molested them.

The McCormack case had an important impact on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in 2010.

Bishop Gerald Kicanas of Tucson, then the USCCB vice president, had previously been rector of the Mundelein seminary, where McCormick was trained for the priesthood.

As the controversy grew, the US bishops broke with precedent and chose Cardinal Timothy Dolan, rather than the conference’s vice president, as USCCB president.
